Atlantic Coatings, Inc. (ACI), the main contract manufacturing facility of Pacific Paint (BOYSEN®), was recently certified for an Integrated Management System (IMS) - ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:2004 and OHSAS 18001: 2007. The certification signifies that the quality management, environmental management, safety and health systems of the plant are in accordance with the latest international standards.

“We’re very proud to be the first paint company in the Philippines to receive the ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management and OHSAS 18001: 2007 Occupational Health and Safety certifications,” said Laila Flores, plant manager of Atlantic Coatings, Inc. “We’re committed to not only make BOYSEN® the best value paint in the market, but to make sure it’s made in the safest and most environmentally responsible way.”

The IMS certification is the latest in a long string of environmental achievements for ACI, considered the biggest and most modern paint manufacturing facility in South East Asia. Together with Pacific Paint (BOYSEN®) Philippines, Inc., ACI was also the first Filipino paint company to be awarded Responsible Care®, the global chemical industry’s environment, health and safety initiative to drive continuous improvement in performance in these areas. It was the first paint manufacturing facility in the Philippines to implement a Zero Generated Waste Water Program, and also the first to have a completely closed production system to minimize the spread of dust. The facility was awarded 1st place in Trece Martires City’s Clean and Green Beautification Contest Factory Category for the two years the program was held, even beating out food companies for the award.

The OHSAS 18001 standard specifies requirements for an Occupational Health and Safety management system to enable organizations to develop and implement a policy and objectives which take into account legal requirements and information about occupational health and safety risks that may arise during the manufacturing process. In addition, it also sets high standards in evaluating the competence of employees in terms of operational methods and damage control capabilities. After a company meets the stated requirements of the OHSAS 18001 standard, its performance is monitored through internal audits to assess its effectiveness and further reviewed for possible improvements.

“Our vision is to be a world class paint manufacturing facility committed to excellence, so we strive to achieve world class standards in all aspects of our operation,” said Flores. “BOYSEN® Paints have always been known for its quality, but these certifications show that our safety, health and environment management systems are also up to the highest international standards.”
